Atkins Diet™

Atkins Diet

The Atkins Diet is a low carb diet based on four principles known as The Atkins Nutritional Principles™ .

These principles are:

  1. Weight Loss
  2. Weight Maintenance
  3. Good Health
  4. Disease Prevention

The four phase weight loss plan is used to select the foods you eat based on your need to achieve weight loss, maintain your weight, have good health and prevent disease. The foods vary depending on the phase you are in and how your body metabolizes foods.

The Four Phases are:

  1. Induction: Restricted carbs - limited to 20 grams per day
  2. Ongoing Weightloss - Slow increase and re-balancing in carbs using whole foods
  3. Pre-Maintenance - More gradual increases in carbs
  4. Lifetime Maintenance - Controlled carbohydrate consumption
